AI also helped Kambi reduce the delay between a customer selecting an in-play bet and being able to place it. Across the Premier League and World Cup, Kambi reduced live betting delay by more than 40% between August 2025 and July 2026.

The result for customers was more choice, shorter suspension periods and faster bet acceptance. For operators, those improvements can support both customer retention and profitability.

While simulations and validation exercises had helped Kambi prepare for the traffic and operational demands of the 2026 World Cup, testing could not establish how performance would compare with the wider market once the football began.

Satisfaction with existing tools scored an average of 6 out of 10. Co-author Gali Hartuv, CEO and co-founder at WarriorLab described this “middling satisfaction” as “the most expensive kind”.

While VIP managers welcomed AI for prioritising their workload, the report suggested they remained cautious about delegating a final judgment to opaque automated systems. 

The report’s authors noted that VIP managers “are not asking to be replaced” but desire tools that assist by triaging and pointing out priority players, while humans maintain relationship control and make final decisions.

Funds held in customer accounts also declined sharply. Operators held £886.6 million ($1.19 billion), down 13.9% from the same point a year earlier.

Retail betting diverged significantly from the wider market, with non-remote betting GGY falling 3.3% to £2.4 billion ($3.2 billion). The number of betting shops dropped for a 12th consecutive reporting period to 5,617 premises—a 3.6% annual decline (down 208 shops from March 2025).

Other retail sectors performed better. Bingo GGY increased 8.2% to £703.8 million ($941.8 million), while arcade GGY rose 10.7% to £800.1 million ($1.07 billion).
