Course Description

Form 5 Literature in English course offers a comprehensive study of literary works, focusing on the analysis and interpretation of various genres and themes. II. Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, students will be able to: 1. Analyze and interpret literary texts effectively. 2. Identify and analyze key literary elements, such as plot, character, setting, and theme. 3. Apply critical thinking skills to evaluate and appreciate literary works. 4. Demonstrate an understanding of the historical and cultural contexts that shape literature. 5. Develop effective oral and written communication skills through discussions, presentations, and written assignments. III. Course Content: 1. Introduction to Literature - Definition and importance of literature - Literary genres and their characteristics - Elements of literature: plot, character, setting, theme, etc. 2. Poetry - Analysis of poetic devices and techniques - Study of different forms of poetry (sonnets, ballads, free verse, etc.) - Exploration of renowned poets and their works 3. Drama - Analysis of dramatic elements (dialogue, stage directions, etc.) - Study of different types of plays (tragedy, comedy, etc.) - Examination of notable playwrights and their plays 4. Prose - Analysis of narrative techniques and styles - Study of short stories and novels - Exploration of renowned authors and their works 5. Historical and Cultural Contexts - Understanding the influence of historical and cultural contexts on literature - Analysis of literary works in relation to their respective contexts - Exploration of diverse perspectives and voices in literature
